The Hawthorn Half Day course takes place on a 5k loop which resides entirely within Hawthorn Park. The vast majority of the course takes place on trails which are mostly dirt or well mowed grass. One of the trails has a segment of crushed gravel and approximately a 1/2 mile of the course takes place on paved roads through the campground of the park.
The 5k course can be described as mostly flat with approximately 2 descents and 2 climbs with the rest of the course as lightly rolling.
With 30 minutes remaining in the race, runners may begin the 1/2 mile loop for the remainder of the race. Runners will not be allowed to go out on the 5K loop once there is less than 30 minutes left in the race. Team's runners must continue in the same order as held throughout the day.
This 1/2 mile loop will take place on a flat and completely paved road within the park.

Runner’s Village
Runner’s Village sits in the grassy meadow right next to the start/finish line, and you’ll pass through it at the end of every loop—making it the perfect place for your tent, crew, and fueling station. Bring your own gear to set up; the area also includes playground equipment, restrooms, and a picnic shelter.
Runner’s Village is open during packet pickup and again on race morning for set-up. If you bring equipment on race day, please note that you’ll need to carry it across the parking lot to the village. The start/finish area is vehicle-restricted on race day. If you leave tents overnight, please secure them well. Hawthorn Half Day is not responsible for lost or damaged items.
Pro tip: Pick a shaded spot—you’ll thank yourself later!
